Position Summary

The Sales Operations & Demand Planner serves as the primary operational link between Sales and Operations, ensuring customer demand, sales opportunities, open orders, production priorities, and operational constraints are understood and effectively communicated across the organization.

This role partners directly with an assigned sales team to develop a clear understanding of customer requirements, open demand, qualified sales opportunities, expected order timing, and changing priorities. That information is translated into actionable demand intelligence used by Production Planning, Production Control, Procurement, and Operations to support material, capacity, and production decisions.

The Sales Operations & Demand Planner also provides end-to-end visibility of customer orders as they move through the operation, identifies risks to customer commitments, coordinates resolution of constraints, and ensures Sales receives timely and accurate information.

This individual represents customer priorities within the production planning process while maintaining a fact-based understanding of material availability, production capability, competing priorities, and operational constraints.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working at the intersection of customer demand and manufacturing execution and will have the judgment to distinguish between routine changes, legitimate priorities, and situations requiring escalation.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Partner closely with assigned Sales representatives and leadership to understand customer requirements, open orders, expected future demand, priorities, and changes in customer needs.
  • Translate open backlog, historical demand, qualified sales opportunities, customer intelligence, and expected order timing into a rolling demand outlook.
  • Maintain visibility to the sales pipeline and work with Sales to evaluate the likelihood, timing, quantity, and product mix associated with significant opportunities.
  • Identify changes in forecasted demand and communicate material shifts, risks, and opportunities to Production Planning, Production Control, Procurement, and Operations.
  • Participate in regular demand planning activities and provide validated sales and customer inputs into the company’s planning process.
  • Maintain detailed visibility to open customer orders, requested delivery dates, committed dates, order status, and production progress.
  • Monitor customer orders throughout the manufacturing process and proactively identify orders at risk of missing customer
  •  or internal commitments.
  • Coordinate with Production Control regarding production priorities, material availability, capacity constraints, work-in-process status, and scheduling considerations.
  • Represent customer requirements and business priorities during production planning and prioritization discussions.
  • Provide Sales representatives with timely, accurate, and actionable updates regarding order status, production progress, constraints, and expected completion dates.
  • Work cross-functionally to resolve issues affecting customer orders, including material shortages, production constraints, quality holds, engineering requirements, configuration questions, and other operational dependencies.
  • Identify situations requiring priority decisions or management escalation and provide clear information regarding customer impact, operational constraints, available alternatives, and recommended actions.
  • Support allocation and prioritization decisions when demand exceeds available material or production capacity.
  • Maintain accurate planning assumptions and ensure significant changes in customer demand are captured and communicated.
  • Analyze backlog, order aging, demand changes, forecast performance, and customer delivery performance to identify emerging risks or trends.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and other tools that improve visibility to customer demand, backlog, forecast, production status, and order risk.
  • Support new product introductions, major customer programs, promotions, significant orders, and other events requiring coordinated Sales and Operations planning.
  • Participate in daily and weekly operational reviews as required and communicate significant customer or demand changes.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Engineering, Finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in sales operations, demand planning, production planning, supply chain, customer operations, order management, manufacturing operations, or a closely related function.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing, assembly, distribution, or other product-based operating environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with customer orders, backlog, forecasts, production schedules, or demand planning processes.
  • Ability to translate sales and customer information into meaningful operational requirements.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Sales and Operations teams.
  • Strong understanding of basic manufacturing and supply chain concepts including lead times, material availability, capacity, production scheduling, inventory, backlog, and customer delivery commitments.
  • Experience using ERP, MRP, CRM, or related business systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret demand, order, inventory, and production information.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or comparable analytical tools.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple customer priorities, changing requirements, and competing deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with Sales, manufacturing personnel, leadership, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, gather relevant information, evaluate alternatives, and drive issues toward resolution.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment where customer requirements and production priorities may change quickly.
  • Strong attention to detail without losing sight of broader business priorities.
  • Ability to communicate operational constraints clearly and professionally, including situations where customer requests cannot be supported as originally requested.
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and productive working relationships across functional boundaries.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience within the firearms, suppressor, defense, aerospace, tactical products, military, law enforcement, or other regulated manufacturing industries.
  • Familiarity with firearms industry customers, distributors, dealers, government agencies, military organizations, or law enforcement organizations.
  • Understanding of government, military, law enforcement, or defense-related sales cycles and customer requirements.
  • Experience supporting complex or long-cycle sales opportunities where demand must be evaluated before a purchase order is received.
  • Experience supporting distributor, dealer, retail, wholesale, or other multi-channel commercial sales organizations.
  • Experience with Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), Integrated Business Planning (IBP), demand review, or similar cross-functional planning processes.
  • Experience developing forecasts using historical demand, open orders, sales pipeline, customer intelligence, and statistical or analytical information.
  • Experience in a make-to-order, configure-to-order, assemble-to-order, or mixed manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing constrained supply, customer allocations, shortages, or competing order priorities.
  • Experience supporting new product introductions or major customer/program launches.
  • Familiarity with SAP or SAP Business One.
  • Experience with CRM systems and sales pipeline management.
  • Experience developing operational dashboards, backlog reports, demand analytics, or customer order tracking tools.
  • Familiarity with regulated products, serialized products, controlled inventory, export requirements, or compliance-sensitive manufacturing environments.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, APICS/ASCM, CPIM, CSCP, or similar operations or supply chain training/certification.

Successin this position will be measured by the quality and reliability of demandinformation, customer order visibility, cross-functional communication, and theability to identify and resolve risks before they become customer failures.
