Job Description:
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced R&D Laboratory Director to lead and oversee the qualification, maintenance, and management of laboratory facilities and equipment in accordance with Army Research Lab (ARL) requirements. This individual will be responsible for conducting safe, controlled experiments to determine desired outcomes while ensuring that all research processes adhere to strict safety and compliance standards. The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge in firearms and be adept at evaluating and refining processes to meet federal and safety regulations. Additionally, the Testing Director will ensure that all testing controls are validated for existing and newly developed technologies, while remaining impartial and objective in validating product results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Qualify and maintain laboratory facilities and equipment in strict compliance with Army Research Lab (ARL) standards and federal safety regulations.
- Lead and conduct controlled experiments in a safe environment, ensuring the accuracy and validity of test results.
- Evaluate existing and new technologies and products, verifying that all testing controls are validated and perform as expected.
- Oversee the design, execution, and analysis of testing procedures, ensuring they meet research objectives and safety standards.
- Ensure impartiality in the testing process, remaining neutral and objective regardless of desired results or outcomes.
- Act as the subject matter expert on firearms, evaluating processes, procedures, and technologies for safety, compliance, and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review testing protocols and refine methodologies for improved accuracy and reliability.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal regulations, standards, and safety protocols related to firearms and laboratory testing.
- Ensure proper documentation of test results, procedures, and any modifications to the testing process.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to laboratory staff, ensuring they adhere to best practices and comply with safety and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science). A Master’s or Doctoral degree is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in R&D or laboratory management, with a strong background in firearms and related technologies.
- Expertise: In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with firearms, ballistics, and firearms-related technologies.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in laboratory management, safety protocols, or firearms handling are highly preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of federal safety regulations, Army Research Lab requirements, and relevant compliance standards.
- Ability to design, implement, and validate testing procedures for existing and new technologies.
- Experience in conducting objective, unbiased testing and validating results.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical data and articulating product performance and outcomes.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop a team of scientists and engineers in a laboratory setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in leading research projects that involve firearms and military technologies.
- Familiarity with government contracting, especially with military or defense agencies.
- A history of working in compliance-heavy environments with stringent safety requirements.

The Director’s role is to support and drive strategic activities as well as maintain and improve the business performance goals defined by HUXWRX Safety Co. You will be expected to optimize communication systems between departments and companies by aligning cross-functional teams to deliver the desired value. We are seeking a results driven leader who is an aggressive learner in a rapidly changing environment. You must be market savvy, an exceptional communicator, and a technical expert. You must fully learn and understand the business dynamics and performance expectations of HUXWRX. The Director must have the capability to collaborate with unique customer verticals including Commercial, L.E., Mission, International Sales, and Ecommerce. Your ability to translate complex assemblies as well as create and compile internal data into understandable actions or needs to improve customer experience is essential. Maintaining HUXWRX’s strict adherence to all company standards and ATF rules and guidelines is essential to complete compliance standing with the Federal Government.
